Alittle insider knowledge about Cyprus goes a long way. There are a few cheap flights to cyprus, Yet
many families barely stray from their hotel, which is a shame, as they miss out on 90% of what this wonderful island has to offer.
All the main tourist centres – Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Ayia Napa – and the subsidiary ones, the Pissouri region and the Troodos,
are easily accessible and part of an excellent infrastructure. Driving is easy and convenient. If you get lost, finding an English-speaker to help won’t be difficult. Best of all, the island is completely childfriendly,
so planning a series of excursions, or even a touring holiday,
is easy as there isn’t really anywhere or anything to avoid.

In the heat of summer, I’d suggest excursions early in the morning or late afternoon, with swimming built in wherever possible. The Troodos region is always a couple of degrees cooler than the coast and Nicosia in summer is hotter, so plan accordingly. Outside the main
summer months, you’ll have more flexibility. When you get cheap flights to cyprus, you can get help in our site.
Our site is arranged in a west-to-east direction, starting with Paphos and the Akamas region; moving eastwards to Pissouri,
Limassol and the Troodos; onwards to Larnaca; and to the other end of the island, Ayia Napa and Protaras. Finally, there’s a chapter on
Nicosia, the capital, which for most families, is really a day trip rather than a place to stay.
I’ve used anglicised spellings of Cypriot place names throughout, although you will see variations of these on the island.

If you are travelling to Cyprus with your children, as a precaution,I recommend having a letter signed by the children’s
other parent giving you permission to take them out of the UK.This isn’t a legal requirement but
I have been stopped travelling alone with my children and questioned by a (friendly) immigration
officer.

The advice of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (www.fco.gov.uk) for Cyprus at the time of going to press is that
any adults travelling alone with children should be aware that they may need to bring documentary
evidence of parental responsibility; for further information contact the High
Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in London.

Cyprus is a very safe country but the usual rules apply about keeping hold of children’s hands in
crowded places and never letting your eyes stray from them on the beach or by the pool. Cyprus’s
beaches are unpredictable and some have strong currents offshore,so be absolutely vigilant.
As soon as your children are old enough, have them memorise your mobile phone number
in case of absolute emergency, and make sure they know where you are staying in the dire event
that they get separated from you.
